Celebration of Sport 2016


The Celebration of Sport was very well attended – a full house where achievement in sport was acknowledged. Y12 students were frequently on stage, receiving Merit, Distinction and Trophies for various accomplishments in a range of codes. Y12 students took out four of teh major awards as recorded below:

Student Coach of the Year: Daphne Martinez

Awarded to the student coach who has made the biggest improvement to the performance of a team and who has seen to be particularly effective in developing individuals within a team

Hornal Trophy: Salote-Alison Taufa

Awarded to the student reaching the highest levels in sport. Winner – U17 National Netball Championship

Killara Trophy: Liam Collins

For outstanding leadership and contribution to sport in the school on and off the field of play.

Morris Barling Trophy – Sports Person of the Year – Male: Haydon Smith

For the male student who has achieved the highest level in sport and represented the College in a variety of sports Haydon’s participation and accomplishments are:

  • Basketball – Senior A Boys
  • Hockey – Newlands Boys
  • Newlands Mixed Hockey
  • Cricket
  • Verry Family Trophy: for achievement, attitude and contribution to Cricket
  • Woodcock Family Trophy: for the most valuable team contribution to the Boys 1st XI
  • Kinsella Trophy: for the most valuable player
  • Ross Verry Trophy: For 100 + runs in Cricket
  • Runner Up – CSW Regional Cricket Championship – Premier 2
  • U17 & U19 Wellington Cricket Representative
  • 154 vs Kapiti College 1
  • U18 Wellington Indoor Cricket Representative
