48 Hours is New Zealand’s #1 Limited-Time Filmmaking Contest. Hundreds of teams write, shoot, cut and hopefully survive making a short film in one weekend. Then over a million people view the shorts in cinemas, online and on network television. The Newlands Media department has traditionally been involved, entering numerous teams over the years and achieving phenomenal success.
Filmmakers don’t know what genre (thriller/romance etc) they will be shooting and what elements (eg. props, lines of dialogue, film technique, character name and type) they must use until the start of the competition. All creativity: writing, shooting, editing and adding a musical soundtrack, must occur within the 48 hour window beginning Friday evening at 7pm and ending Sunday at 7pm.
This year the competition is open to Y12 and Y13 Media Studies students. The first meeting was held yesterday for students to register their interest. Students who were not at the meeting but who are keen need to contact Mr Cargill as soon as possible to be part of the next phase of organisation!
