The New Zealand Class 1 Driver Licence unit standards are available to Newlands College learners. There are three standards:
- 29363 – Learn to drive a vehicle within the conditions of a Class 1 New Zealand learner driver licence (Level 1, 2 credits, a driver’s Licence required)
- 29364 – Drive a vehicle within the conditions of a Class 1 New Zealand restricted driver licence (Level 2, 4 credits, Restricted Licence required)
- 29365 – Drive a vehicle within the conditions of a Class 1 New Zealand full driver licence (Level 2, 2 credits, Full Licence required)
Credits from these standards can count towards learners’ achievement of NCEA. They are unit standards, which means that you only get Achieved for passing (Merit and Excellence are not attainable), but this can help with your overall credit count. Full information available on NZQA here.
Once a learner has gained their Class 1 Driver Licence, they can be awarded these standards and gain credits on their Record of Achievement through a ‘recognition of prior learning’ process. Students then need to print and complete this simple form and present it, along with their official photographic licence to Ms Featherstone in the Careers Office (A2).
Learning happens all the time in all sorts of contexts, not just at school. These are credits that recognise the learning that has gone in to gaining a driver’s licence. Students need to do little else but fill in a form and produce their licence. Over to you!
My son practiced the theory part on http://www.drivingtests.co.nz and it was good
