Celebration of Sport 2015

Congratulations to all the Year 11s who gained recognition last week at the Celebration of Sport. It proved to be another successful evening on the back of another brilliant year of sport for Newlands College. The trophy winners include:

  • Kyran Van Asch – winner of the HORNAL TROPHY: Awarded to the student reaching the highest levels in sport. Kyran is a NZ Gymnastics Representative, heading to the Valeri Liukin Invitational in Texas, USA in December 2015
  • Haydon Smith – nominated for the MORRIS BARLING TROPHY: Sports Person of the Year – male. For the male student who has achieved the highest level in sport and represented the College in a variety of sports (Basketball, Cricket, Hockey, Smallbore). Also the recipient of the Woodcock Family Trophy: for the most valuable team contribution to the Boys 1st XI (Haydon is a U16 Wellington Cricket Representative and in the U17 Future Firebirds Cricket Squad)
  • Casey Norman – winner of the Holden Trophy for Orienteering and The Horwell Cup: awarded to the player demonstrating the highest level of commitment to Boys hockey.
  • Audrey Martinez – winner of the Netball Trophy: awarded to the player who, at any level, demonstrates outstanding levels of commitment, enthusiasm and endeavor and The Godwin Family Trophy:  for the most improved female (Basketball)
  • Liam Collins – winner of the Umpire Trophy: for the student who demonstrates commitment and dedication to netball umpiring
  • Louisa Naftel – winner of The Hockey Cup: awarded to the player demonstrating the highest level of commitment to Girls hockey.
  • Tiarne Southon – winner of the Gill Trophy: Awarded to the player demonstrating the highest levels of commitment to girls football.
  • Hadlee Jackson – winner of the Terry Upjohn Trophy: for the most improved player in the 1st XI
  • Trinity McIntosh – player of the year for the Girls Football 1st XI
  • Zachary Allen – player of the year for the Boys Football 4th XI
  • Melissa Chu-Fong – winner of the Badminton Trophy: for the most valuable female
