The Y11 Health Day began with an Attitude presentation. Previous Attitude presentations have been on tough times, hardwired and being connected. Today’s topic was sex: ‘Sex with Attitude’. It began by talking about how condoms can protect us physically, but sex isn’t just physical; and it was the emotional side that the presentation focused on. The notes below are brief and don’t capture the stories and the discussion but hopefully they show some of the key points.
Relationships – They can make us, happy, confused and sometimes hurt. Don’t make someone a priority if they have only made you an option. There is a fine line between joking around and being disrespectful, no one should ever make choices about your body other than you. If they don’t, it isn’t a healthy relationship and you shouldn’t be there. Love is giving someone the power to break your heart, but trusting them not to.
A healthy relationship is where you…
- can be yourself
- want the best for each other
- are connected to friends and family
- are treated with respect
Myths about sex
- Everyone is doing it (statistically the majority of even Y13s aren’t)
- It is always going to be something wonderful
- Sex and love are the same
