Newlands College has embraced the ‘Day of Silence’ making the first day the school has officially recognised the cause, a very special day indeed. Over a quarter of the school turned up for the official photo to show their support for the day’s message.
In the assembly presentation earlier in the week, the concept of the day was launched. It is a day of action in which students across New Zealand vow to take a form of silence to call attention to the silencing effect of homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying, name-calling and harassment in schools. The day was organised by InsideOUT and it is fantastic that Newlands College supported it in such great numbers.
