Samoan Language Week

Samoan Language Week has been celebrated at school with acknowledgement of the outstanding contribution our Samoan students make to the life of Newlands College. More information can be found on the official website and facebook page:

This years theme is “Tautua nei mo sou manuia a taeao” – “Serve now for a better tomorrow” and we hope that everyone will draw on the skills and expertise of those who speak Pacific languages, and be brave, and have a go at speaking Samoan!

Good morning – Manuia le Taeao
Have a great day – Ia manuia le aso
Have a great week – Ia manuia le vaiaso
Have a great evening – Ia manuia le afiafi
Take good care of your health – Vaai fa’alelei lou soifua

Ms Ryan, our Pasifika Liaison Officer was publicising the week in the notices. This was one of the prompts:

Here is a Samoan proverb to think about during your day ‘O le ala i le pule o le tautua’
It translates as : The way to authority is through service
and is explained further by the idea that in order to lead, one must serve.
