The Sheliah Winn Shakespeare Festival was held this week. Performances from schools nation wide were held on local school stages of Shakespearian scenes ranging from traditional Elizabethan staging to modernist interpretations. Newlands College entered three scenes, two involving the above Y10s, Charlotte Earle, Dani Fontein, Jenni Nash and Stella Lu. They played witches in two scenes from Macbeth, creating an incredibly tense atmosphere with their delivery of such classic lines as “double double, toil and trouble”. Pictures of their last rehearsal of their scene directed by drama teacher Ms Matheson are below.
The other scene from Romeo + Juliet involved Y13s Brittany Rees-Thomas and Josh Gimlett and was a student directed scene. As a result of their outstanding success Arts’ Captain Brittany has been selected to travel to the Globe Theatre in London to attend a gathering of our country’s most talented Shakespearean performers. An outstanding achievement!
