Melodrama is a form of theatre, which exaggerates the typical plot: good ruling over evil. Melodrama was NCEA Leave One’s drama genre for their performances last Thursday night. They performed to a large audience of about 50 who came to watch to see what they had come up with over the term. They were marked on their performance, and had teachers and cameras watching as well: no pressure!
I was fortunately one of the lucky ones to witness their achievements and I really enjoyed the show. The whole atmosphere of melodrama was really cool with the audience encouraged to really interact with the performance: cheering for the heroes and booing at the bad guys – giving the show another element. I thought it was overall a really entertaining night with the lights, music, and amazing costumes adding to the brilliant performances. All the rehearsals and effort had really paid off, everyone was really enjoying themselves and having a great time. The actors were incredible and everyone did a fantastic job – it couldn’t have been better!
