A strong tradition has formed over the last few years of musical productions at Newlands College. The list includes Les Miserables, Grease, Chicago and Little Shop of Horrors, and this year The Wizard of Oz is next. Now deep into rehearsals and only two weeks from opening night! The cast of over 50 students includes eight Year 9s were taken out to ‘production camp’ earlier in the week, where between 8am and 9pm, the play was rehearsed and the polishing began. Here are some of the thoughts of some of the Y9s that came:
“It was a great camp; I had so much fun and made so many new friends. We all got along and really had a great time and there were a lot of laughs along the way. The directors and choreographers have done a great job, we had so much fun and have many great memories. All the rehearsals really paid off, the play is starting to come together. I can’t wait to see the play put on the actual stage and for everyone to see the hard work and effort that cast and the directors have put in to make this play the best it can be.” – Clarice Du Toit
“I can’t wait to see the show come together” – Hunter Giltrap
“Production camp was so much fun” – Meg Burgess
“This was a great experience. We got to meet and get to know more people at the school. I really enjoyed having to sing without being told to be quiet!” – Panashe Dindingwe
Starring Kyra Basabas, Puletini Vaofusi, Bryan Law, Brett Taefu, Batanai Mashingaidze, Ellen Giltrap, Corey Le’Aupepe and a talented chorus of Newlands College students this is a show not to be missed!
